The presenters outline three different contexts for their cross-cultural/linguistic partnership and discuss its successes and challenges. In particular, they highlight the reciprocal nature of this endeavor as US and Japanese students work out cultural and linguistic differences and blurred academic boundaries.

Timothy Diko is an ESL instructor at Mukogawa US Campus in Spokane.  His research interests include ELF, pronunciation and language identities.  He enjoys volunteering in the community, the great outdoors and finding ways to overcome the challenges of online teaching.

Mary Jeannot is associate professor of ESL and TESOL programs at Gonzaga University.  Her research interests are in critical ethnography, language, power, context and invention. Her most recent passions are near nature, near perfect exercising her outdoorphins.
